Movie review about HAIRSPRAY

A movie I recommend is “HAIRSPRAY”. It has been my favorite movie since I was a child. The original musical was released on  Broadway in August 2002, and it came to Japan in October 2007. The musical had won 8 Tony Awards and 4 Laurence Olivier Awards. The director of this movie is Adam Shankman. His other best-known work is “Glee”.

“HAIRSPRAY” is a romantic musical comedy movie. This genre’s movie can be enjoyed by
both men and women. Usually it deals with love, but this movie also deals with racism and
body image complex. But, this movie is not a dark story because it has comedy elements. The movie has a lot of fans, so the musical version will be staged in Japan next summer.

The main Character in “HAIRSPRAY” is Tracy Turnblad, played by Nikki Blonsky. Tracy is
big size girl who is a high school student and she loves singing and dancing. She lives in Baltimore, and she dreams about dancing with the popular dancer Link on the popular dance
television show “CORNY COLLINS SHOW”. One day she passed a new member audition
and she was able to appear in the show. And she struggles to eliminate racism through
singing and dancing on the show. By the way in the Japanese version the main character will be played by Naomi Watanabe.

“HAIRSPRAY” is good movie that teaches everyone about racism in the USA and you can think “Don’t be afraid of body image complex, I want to live positively”. American movie review site “Rotten Tomatoes” says this movie is  regarded as the most easy-to-see of waters film, and a work that reverses the image. Actually the movie is a blockbuster with about $ 202,548,575 in box office revenue.
It is a very interesting movie. You should watch this movie!
